I'm with that, but imo this type of thing is actively harming the
effort to defeat Trump, and was harmful even when he was defeated last time. And I can't quantify the impact, and don't look at it myself as defining the parties, but it feels like a big anchor- toward defeating Trump let alone becoming a majority party that has the power to implement other policies. There are voters who don't see it as clear cut the way you put it though, but the candidates still have to win votes from that pool, and it's a close race. I don't know exactly what you do to meaningfully shift gears but this is a drag, one that can be overcome but a drag nonetheless.
