civilian:militant casualties. That's far better than the US achieved in urban warfare and that's without terrorists having decades to integrate themselves into the entire fabric of the society to use civilians as human shields and put command posts underground beneath UN offices. And there's no good reason to trust Hamas numbers when they're overtly in a PR war against Israel. So it's likely actually better than 2:1.

That does not change that images out of Gaza are horrific. What is happening to children in particular is horrific. But war is terrible. And this war was started by Hamas. I've yet to hear anyone tell me what they think Israel should [reasonably] have done that is significantly different than what they are doing. "Ceasefire" is not the solution. Ceasefire was the status quo on October 6th. Why would Israel sign up for that again knowing what happened on October 7th? All Hamas will do during a ceasefire is re-supply, re-arm and re-group to plan more attacks on Israelis. No reasonable country acting in their own self-interest would allow that.
