This seems like as good a place as any to put detailed reactions
In no particular order:
- The captain and the pilots are never going to work again, and are likely going to spend time in prison.
- How is there not a redundant propulsion/navigation system on a ship that large?
- I have no idea how difficult it is to drop anchor at that speed and without electrical power, but I don't care if it tears a hole in the ship or scrapes up half the channel - that has to be better than taking out an entire bridge.
- Did the ship not alert Harbor Patrol of their situation? The video shows a lot of time elapsed from the first outage - time that could have possibly allowed the bridge to, say, remove the construction crew or shut down vehicular traffic.
A lot of terrible decisions that we'll learn more about in the coming days. Tragic for the workers who had no idea what was about to happen. Prayers for their families.
