Just related to my post below, I found data that shows that in 1940,


the life expectancy at age 65 was 77.5. In 2022, it 82. So life expectancy at age 65 is up by 4.5 years over the last 82 years, but the "net hit" to social security over that time is 2.5 years since the full retirement age was raised by 2 years.

Another interesting and unrelated note is that in 2019, the life expectancy at age 65 was 83. We took an entire year off of life expectancy for people aged 65 from the virus that was just like a cold. This should actually yield a financial benefit to SS (not that it's a benefit we wanted)
