No, they wouldn't allow it and he'd have no chance with the voters as a Democrat even if he did. Why? With all of the faults that the Democrats have, they at least are serious about their jobs as representatives of their constituents and traditional Democratic voters expect legitimate representation, not clowning for the cameras.
