perceived as corrupt. Heavily reliant on unfriendly regimes for key inputs. Doesn't really have an independent court system, so probably no real rule of law. Not really a player militarily (though does have a vote for NATO membership). People don't really have unfettered access to information. It has been credibly argued that Orban privatized public assets (or otherwise converted public holdings to private) and benefitted financially. Hungary's economy is growing, but I think investors remain a little wary.

So how has all that "putting his country first" translated to wealth, security and influence (and the resulting prosperity)? What do Hungarians have that we do not yet covet?

But he doesn't tolerate gays and crossdressers and won't take asylum seekers. I'm guessing some of y'all like that.

I think I'll stick with the American way (though we're far from perfect... look at our borders, look at all the gun violence). But there is still something about being powerful, prosperous and free that still appeals to me after all these years. But you may prefer the Hungarian way. Different folks, different strokes I suppose.
