Western democracies have assets all over the world, often in countries objecting to western foreign policies. I don’t think we want to set a precedent of unilateral asset seizures by govts over foreign policy disagreements.

We can say this is an extreme example. But we need some sort of due process to make that very clear - dot all i’s and cross all t’s, in a way that this sort of thing never becomes an ordinary tool for establishing leverage on the world stage.
