For them it’s more the brand and nationwide appeal they still have, even if

it isn’t what it was 40-50 years ago. As the flagship Catholic school, they have die hard fans from Coast to Coast and I would bet are far and away the most popular college program in the Northeast. They have their own TV deal and more or less call their own shots.

We are a second tier program in a second-tier conference whose own alumni care more about basketball than we do football. We don’t even have a wealthy alumnus willing to pony up money for football as far as I can tell (like we do in PTJ for hoops). In an era where there is open pay to play, an arms race of money for NIL, facilities upgrades, TV deals, etc. we could lower our academic standards to Louisville’s or WVUs and still get left in the dust.
