The best studies on Gerrymandering that I'm aware of are by the Princeton

University Gerrymandering Project. It measures how districts are set up based on 1) Partisan Fairness, 2) Competitiveness and 3) Geographic Features. For the US House of Representatives maps, the Princeton Project gives these grades for three states I'm showing
Virginia. 1- A , 2-C, 3.-C with an overall grade of A
North Carolina 1-F, 2-C, 3-C with an overall grade of F
California 1-B, 2-F, 3-C with an overall grade of B

Prior to the 2023 new NC maps done by the GOP controlled state assy, the existing maps resulted in an overall grade of B by the Princeton study.
