Isn't the easy answer - what occured on January 6th is very different than

secession from the Union and fighting a war seeking to separate certain states from the Union? It would seem that originalists might even have the stronger argument on that point - that this was passed after the Civil War to prevent just those types of very specific harms and after the 2020 election, including Jan 6th, while awful, wasn't anything close?

Trump should not be president, he isn't fit for office and people should not vote for him - but I am very far from convinced that the 14th Amendment, with all the original intent behind it, actually bars him from serving.
