It’s like the entire country has lost sight of how compromise works in such a 50/50 setting. It’s how progress has been made on every difficult issue in our history. Except slavery. We couldn’t find a compromise on that one. I don’t think we want to use that example as our model.

Every single American who reacts like you just did should be required to read this book. Because if your “sorry I get to impose my view of the compromise on everybody else” pervaded everyone's attitudes like they do today, we wouldn’t have a country or a constitution to worry about.
