We need immigration. We have an ageing population and (surprisingly) pretty stark labor shortages in some areas. We also want people that are going to come here, lean, build, earn, pay taxes. We want skilled labor. It is also in our nature to offer refuge to people suffering elsewhere (i.e., asylum).

But it all needs to be managed. By definition, people that apply for asylum can't work for several months after being processed. We spend a lot of time and money managing all of this, and it is neither effective nor efficient. And our current situation is neither desirable nor sustainable.

Which is why we need Congress to do its job and get bills through both houses (which requires bipartisanship, and a desire to work for the American people).
