You think Biden should be doing but isn’t - remain in Mexico, less parole, different asylum rules, etc - it’s the Biden admin, congressional dems, and the shrinking ranks of non-Trump-intimidated repubs in congress who are zeroing in on an agreement now. Won’t give Chip Roy the hr 2 of his dreams, and it will piss off the AOC set for its more stringent rules (compromise), which is of course why it can pass. Dems and non-isolationist repubs have something they want badly, and dems are thus willing to compromise on something they hadn’t prioritized like the Trump admin previously.

There is really one guy doing everything he can to ensure no compromise solution’s reached. That status quo border chaos lasts through the election. As rumors of a senate compromise grow louder, Trump works the phone to threaten the Grahams and Tillises and other handful of senators still willing to defy a cult leader for the good of the country.

We’ll see if he can peel enough of them off. If not, we’ll see if he can bully Johnson into keeping it from a house floor vote which would pass it with loads of dems and repubs voting yay. Either way, there’s a good chance the repubs are flipping your script. The hot button issue weighing down dems will be seen as kept alive for political purposes by the intransigent repubs, who made sure no progress was made at the border in an election year. Just the latest version of repubs eagerly following Trump over a political cliff, like nominating Kari Lake or Herschel Walker.
