In Maine, too much is being made of process. It’s launched by the Sec of

State’s decision. Which is then stayed pending review of appeals to state court. The courts will decide, not the Sec of State. It’s unfortunate that Maine works this way though, because it plays into Trumpistani grievances.

I agree with Trumpies politically. We can’t afford this continued erosion of faith in institutions by having “panels of elites” - courts - taking their vote for their preferred candidate out of their hands. But the cold, hard constitutional reality is inconvenient to that view. I’d like to see the SC reach a unanimous decision ending this controversy, but my political preferences might run aground on the “strict constructionism” championed by so much of the court.
