intolerance - intolerance of anything other than marriage of a cisgender, biological male to a cisgender, biological female. The LGBTQ community has been shamed, othered, and persecuted since time immemorial like many other minorities and non-conformists, but they have as much right to be respected and accepted as anyone else. In my opinion the church’s historic position on the matter is nothing but bigotry, plain and simple. It’s just tribalism. Us and them. You seem to believe “let live” means allowing you to perpetuate that bigotry based on primitive biases rooted in uncivilized times.

I don’t see any mention in the article of the LGBTQ community “exerting tremendous pressure” on the church. That’s clearly your perspective, born I imagine of your preference that LGBTQs stay quiet and out of sight so you don’t have to acknowledge them. But if they speak up on their own behalf how is that any different than Black people doing the same to assert their rights? The answer is that it isn’t.

Having said all that, I do think discouraging use of the words parent, husband, and wife is silly. As far as I know same sex couples often use husband or wife to indicate the gender of their spouse, and parent doesn’t indicate gender at all. But if British Methodists (how many can there even be?) want to do that, that’s fine with me.
