Haley could have rolled her eyes and said “slavery”, which would have shut the questioner up and highlighted that in 2023, it’s a stupid question. But unfortunately, she showed that in the repub party, it is not a stupid question. It is a very relevant question, showing that in the mindsets of too many repubs (certainly in Haley’s opinion), the civil war loss is still a little too raw. Too soon for them to be asked about the honest shortcoming of their ancestors which led to war.

They still need their leaders to pander to lost cause sensibilities. Nobody even talks about DeSantis’ “slavery as a jobs program” educational initiatives. Along with Trump’s “national blood poisoning” messaging, here we have the 3 front runners for the Repub nomination.

No, unfortunately, it’s not a silly question of a repub candidate. It should be in 2023, but they keep proving it’s not.
