The British bombed at night targeting only civilians.

The Americans bombed during the day. We had the Norden bomb sight. The second most expensive weapon in the war. We believed in Strategic bombing.

However in the lead up to D Day, Ike mandated we begin to hit railroad marshaling. yards. This was very controversial within Bomber Command as railroad marshaling yards were in city centers.

Dresden was part of this campaign. While the British bombed with more incendiaries - a fire was a good aiming point at night - we used little incendiaries as we wanted to destroy the Germans transportation and limit civilian casualties. The British wanted another fire bombing like Hamburg.

The British did most of the Dresden bombing and were responsible for the fire storm.

Not the 8th Air force. We did bomb Dresden but were concentrated on the rail yard.
