“You go into these sad small towns in Southwest Virginia, and you still see hideous, eye-searing burgundy and orange turkey magnets on these old, beat up trucks, even though they haven’t been relevant in football in 20 years and, as one of only two Power Conference programs without a single national title, have literally never been relevant in anything else.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to participation trophies in intramural bass fishing, or winning streaks over a rival school that they couldn’t get into that no longer even bothers caring about college football because they’ve enjoyed Public Ivy status and won 30 national championships in various other sports, and care a lot more about beating Dook and UNC in basketball anyways, as a way to explain their frustrations.
