Well, let’s talk about that. The events in this story were sponsored by
Something called “The People’s City Council”, whose website I’ve linked. Sounds pretty much like a purveyor of extreme left wing causes to me.
To our credit we had no “no politics” rule at my tgiving yesterday. Spent some time discussing this with my very far left nephew, who is pro-Israel, but not a very strong supporter of their military response (because he thinks it’s both too brutal and plays into hamas’ hands). He actually recited to me the reasons he thinks there’s this sea-change in attitudes towards Israel from the political left fringe. Simplistic identity grouping with broad stereotyping of “oppressed” and “oppressor”. I was in violent agreement with him.
A few minutes later he talked about how he can’t handle Bill Maher anymore because of his wokeness focus, which he says he doesn’t even think is real. What we derisively call “wokeness” doesn’t even exist at all, and is just a repub canard. I asked him how he squared that with his attitudes about the causes of this extreme simplicity with which the extreme left now views this conflict. I mean, you think this hyperfocus on identity grouping just suddenly sprung to life on Oct 8?
This is how democrats board the same train the repubs rode to become their lunatic fringe. There should be no equivalence arguments on that point - nobody’s saying the dems have reached that train’s destination, as it already has for repubs. It’s just - they shouldn’t be boarding the train. Meaning - don’t deny the shit going on on the fringe. Call it out. Sure, it gets amplified by political opponents looking for political points. That should not be an excuse to ignore it. I mean, all the repubs (like JM) who scoffed at Trumpism in ‘15, and are now full on subjects of Trumpistan, had no idea they were boarding that train 8 yrs ago either.
