I've never understood this one. Most Americans want sensible immigration policy, which includes border security. I've also never understood why border security boils down to "build the wall" or not. It really has come to symbolize the struggle and has taken on a life of its own. We have lots of walls and fencing. We probably need more. We also need better policy, better enforcement of existing rules, better surveillance and maybe even a better position with Mexico, through which all seem to travel but none seem to stay. Maybe we help fight the root causes at their origins - who knows. Biden said early on that he wouldn't build another inch of wall, and that he'd tear down what Trump started. Not a great starting point, whether you think Trump's wall makes sense or not.

The Dems better figure this one out. It is an issue that matters to the middle-of-the-road voters they need in suburbs and swing states. While I may think Abbott's and Heavy D's political theatre is silly and wasteful, I also think we need to manage the numbers and make sure we're getting the people we want in addition to the people that show up seeking asylum.
