There is already a high sin tax on it. That sin tax is a regressive tax.


And we've seen studies where smokers and drinkers actually don't have higher healthcare costs over their lives because they tend to die earlier before much of the really high costs kick in.

Taxing based on what the masses find "disgusting" or more high risk is a very slippery slope. Should we tax those with more dangerous jobs more? Those that are too fat? Those that ride bicycles and are more likely to be hit by a car? Live in urban areas? Leave taxation to the task of collecting revenues for the services we decide should be provided by Govco, not for regulating behavior 50.1% of the populace finds "icky".

FTR I don't smoke. I'm one of the worst kind, the ex-smokers.
