This reminds me of the discussion we had on the board after the DNC emails

...were phished and leaked in 2016. The only one of them that bothered me was the email spelling out the Democratic strategy to "elevate" the Trump candidacy, because they had concluded that he would be the easiest candidate to beat. My argument then was that the strategy put the interest of the party over the interest of the country. Helping put Donald Trump one step closer to the presidency was NOT in America's best interest. It was in the country's best interest that the two parties nominate the best possible candidates.

I don't recall anyone agreeing with me. Everyone in the discussion agreed that I was being naive and didn't understand how politics works.

Well, look what happened.

And of course I know that the Republicans have advocated the same kind of strategy--conniving to help get the least-competent Democrat nominated.

I think there are times when statesmen need to rise above that kind of thing.

But I realize I'm in a tiny minority and I regret having chimed in...
