I'm experiencing the child care conundrum vicariously through my grandchildren. My son has four kids 5 and under. My daughter-in-law (DIL) and son have both moved on from military careers.

They are faced with the child care puzzle: My son currently makes the most money in NOVA working in The State Department. My DIL could work full time doing , essentially, her old job with the military as a private contractor, but if she works, then they'd end up paying about $75 thousand each year for child care this year and a bit less as their kids age into public school (unless they go with home or private school). What to do?
