ultimately was not in our best interests. As an example that is very relevant right now, the CIA was behind the overthrow of the democratically elected Mohammed Mossadegh and the eventual installation of the Shah in Iran. This started a chain of events that led to the Islamic revolution and the Iran hostage crisis right up through the Hamas terror attacks in Israel. The CIA has done similar things in Central America, Southeast Asia and Africa and almost always fucking up some poor country to make it free for American capitalism.

So no. I'm not a huge fan of the CIA or American imperialism. At the same time though, where I admire the CIA is their necessary ability to get their hands dirty and uncover intelligence to protect US interests against our enemies. Like the FBI they require oversight, but we need to have them, and most of them are very dedicated people.

Not everything is a binary answer. I know MAGA wants it to be. In particular, some random comment by a FORMER CIA head on social media, is really not very relevant at all, is it?
