Honestly, I’m not even ready to speculate about that.

I guarantee (which I really can’t, since I’m not there), that the US is working to prevent Israel from doing anything rash here. I suspect that’s why Blinkin expressly declines to confirm reporting of Iran’s involvement. With everything going on in the world, I don’t think we want to see too much Sabre rattling over Iran. A shooting war in Iran really starts to look more and more like world war with Russia, China, Iran, NK on one side and the US led western alliance on the other.

So, right now, I think efforts are to keep reprisals local. We’ve already seen some shooting at the Lebanese-Israeli border, and I’m sure we’ll see spill over in the West Bank, but I don’t see immediate leaps to reprisals against Iran.

Israel may ultimately feel it needs to respond to Iran directly. Fortunately for us, Israel is likely to be able to fight that battle for itself. I guess depending on what they intend to do. But I think we’ll be working very hard to avoid Americans fighting directly in Iran. Once that starts I think all bets are off.

My bet - very soon brutal imagery is going to emerge from Gaza. Israel will come under pressure from that. The Biden admin will feel it too. And I think that will help temper military responses against Iran. But we are in a fog of war moment, so who really knows how it will all go? Scary moment.
