I actually agree that having a fair trial is, at the very least quite

Difficult when it comes to someone like Trump, but I disagree that such difficulties mean that we shouldn’t attempt to hold individuals accountable if they have committed crimes. It is up to the prosecutors to convince a jury of his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt that the actions you characterize as fairly mundane are actually criminal (and I personally really hate the characterization of juries that haven’t even been selected as “liberal juries” because, beyond trivializing a basic principle of the American criminal Justice system in an attempt to further the delegitimization of a trial that hasn’t even started, there’s the fact that even in highly partisan jurisdictions where Biden got, say, 80% of the vote, statistically it’s likely there’s going to be a least one Trump voter and probably a few independents who have voted Republican previously on the Jury. All Trump needs is one of them to vote in his favor to end up with a hung jury in which case he can claim victory and declare once more that the whole thing was obviously a sham). Concerns about Trump getting a fair trial are legitimate, but I believe they go both ways, and in some ways it seems like a potentially dangerous move for liberals.

But Trump is not the president currently. So impeachment, especially for cases that pertain to his behavior outside of his time during the presidency, isn’t currently an option or frankly appropriate. I realize you don’t believe his actions rise to the level of a crime, and I’m not going to convince you otherwise (and seeing as I’m not going to be on any of his juries my own opinions don’t really matter), but at the same time there are plenty who see things differently. It is actually the job of those prosecuting Trump to prosecute crime, and if they are in possession of evidence that shows, in their opinion, that Trump is guilty of a crime, I would argue that it would be more detrimental to the country for a standard to be set that politicians get a free pass (something that probably does happen far too often) than to actually at least attempt to hold them accountable.

Now could it get out of hand? Of course, that is an unfortunate part of the nature of politics (as you put it earlier). By your posts it seems you believe it already has, but hopefully if that becomes the case the electorate will eventually tire of such games and elect more responsible representatives (maybe a pipe dream, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to be a little optimistic).
