I learned more in that one. I was less familiar with some of the early
battles in the Pacific Theater. Plus, if was over so vast an area and over tiny islands that are hard to find on a map. But the war there was even more brutal and the conditions staggering. The stories of Basilone, Leckie and Sledge were even more compelling than those of Easy Company, if that's possible.
Or maybe it's just because people in my family have mostly served in the Marines or Navy and in the Pacific. It resonated with me. One of my favorites is The Sand Pebbles because my great uncle, a 40-year Navy man, served on a boat like the San Pablo in the China service. Ironically, during WWII though, he was in the Mediterranean.
