Nobody knowledgeable about judicial ethical standards agrees with that.
You left out that we’re talking specifically about a Koch Brothers political fundraising event. Not a dinner at which a judge is giving a speech. You’d be on halfway decent footing even if we were talking about a formal Federalist Society event, even though they are a very partisan org. We’re talking about one of the most influential political groups anywhere on the spectrum, and their purely political fundraising event.
Any lower court judge would face harsh discipline for this. That our highest court should have no standards, much less higher standards, which would really be appropriate, is ridiculous. Merely the appearance of such a conflict of interest in such a position of public trust is well beyond unacceptable.
