Interrupting a government proceeding,…
…assaulting law enforcement, destroying property, etc., is common practice on the left. That doesn’t justify the right following suit, of course, but it does further expose the double-standard in our so-called justice system when the latter has the book — and then some — thrown at them while the former skate.
Power was transferred peacefully, by the way. Joe Biden was sworn in without fanfare right on schedule, and ditto for Trump’s White House departure. That a few dozen LARPers mixed it up with cops for a couple of hours weeks prior to the transfer of power doesn’t change that fact. Regarding the transfer of power, there is no difference between what happened in 2020 and the mass riots in DC on Trump’s inauguration in 2016.
Regarding your handgun and airplane analogy, yes, of course that’s a crime that should be punished. But it should be punished according the crime, not embellished into something it’s not. Further, it especially shouldn’t be embellished when charging one guy for shooting a handgun at a plane while steadfastly refusing even to prosecute thousands of others who did the same thing a few months prior.
