The issue is what those people on the statues represent, and I don't think

statues representing people who wanted to tear the country apart for the purpose of enslaving people should be celebrated. Maybe you do.

It is interesting rhetorical trick to say that I am advocating owning slaves by arguing that a slave owner might have done other positive things in his life, while you defend a general who did nothing in his life more significant than fight and kill his own countrymen for the sole purpose of keeping slavery alive.

Again, if people want to argue that Jefferson should have his statue taken down, I get it. I don't agree, but I get. Arguing for Lee is not in the same ballpark

Whether they are "historical" figures doesn't alone justify them being memorialized. Should we have a statue of Ashli Babbit, she's a historical figure.

The whole "condemn people you don't know" is irrelevant and weak sauce as an argument.

We all condemn people we don't know, yourself included, so sell that elsewhere.
