I see your point, but respectfully disagree.

I say you take the tax bracket + percentage of your donations.

If I am in the 23% tax bracket and give 7 percent to charity, I am giving 30% total to society. This does not include my property taxes for schools for someone that choose not to have children. By the way, my scenario is not true. I gave my home to two homeless guys for 6 years. I risked them stealing from me, which they did in the 4 figures and decided to stop that. Decades ago I tried to help a trouble teen with a single mom, and he did the same thing for 500+ bucks. My wife has volunteer for hospitals, animal causes, meals on wheels, and thrift stores (money goes to the poor, people with medical bills). If there is a funeral and someone says they want you to donate to a cause I do that, but now have stopped. Why? I give a one time donation for a cause that is not to my heart because I cannot help all causes, and I see that donation is used to solicit more more money for 5 to 10 years because I am on that mailing list. For instance, we are animal lovers so we use to donate to ASPCA. They spend way too much on national advertisement and very little goes to local shelters. We give to local shelters now in cash and food. This way we do not get on a mailing list. Clothes go to charity, but we do not take that donation.

If Joe Biden is in the 38% tax bracket + the 3.5% then that is 41% to society. That is way more than I.

My wife work for a animal caused for lower pay. They actually gave 90% to the cause which is excellent.

It is just not as cut and dry as you present from a tax return.
