Looked into the law on this here in VA and here’s what I found…

Under Virginia Code Section 18.2-56.2, it is unlawful for any person to recklessly leave a loaded firearm in a manner that it would endanger the life or limb of any child under the age of 14. A violation of 18.2-56.2 is a Class 3 misdemeanor, which in Virginia is punishable by a fine of $500.

This doesn’t even seem to address endangerment of adults! I really hope there’s something else that I haven’t found that can result in charges against the responsible parent(s). Also it’s insane that a violation of that law is just a misdemeanor with an absurdly low fine.
