I disagree. I think we place too much emphasis on speech.


He was repeating the lyrics of a song, not expressing hatred.

Our society desperately needs to re-emphasize “sticks and stones…” and deemphasize “words = violence”.

If there are other indications of racism in this kid’s past, different story. Otherwise, I wouldn’t ignore it, but I don’t believe it should require the college football death penalty.

It was terrible judgement on his part at a minimum, but terrible judgement tends to be a characteristic of 17 year olds.
