Reading the news this morning
reading, not watching When did anyone really believe the Dems were going to hold on to the House? The only question in my mind was just how many seats would flip (I'm still thinking 25ish). I suppose the surprise is how poorly some of these guys are running in traditional D strongholds (where the voting population probably doesn't have to worry about things like abortion as much). Gotta fight the good fight, but they really set themselves up for disappointment. Many also didn't fight that intelligently.
The Senate races will be interesting to watch though. Thank you Donald Trump for putting a really shitty slate of candidates out there to keep things close. Any normal candidate holds Pat Toomey's seat, IMHO. Any normal candidate keeps the good Reverend's stay in DC short. Any normal candidate doesn't need the party to rescue them in Ohio for Christ's sake. I suppose the Ds returned the favor with Ron Johnson's opponent.
So I imagine we'll hear a lot of "Big Red Wave" stuff today, which would pretty much represent status quo for the midterms after the transition we saw in 2020 (though having an incumbent landslided isn't something we see every day). Big question on my mind is when the party starts to look past Donald Trump. It couldn't be more obvious that he's holding it back. Hopefully party leadership will get through the celebrations and ask themselves what this day really *should* have looked like. And God forbid the GOP doesn't win the Senate - still a very real possibility IMHO (though I think get get 51, we'll see). Maybe that's what it would take to dump loser Donnie.
