Chris Hamby, a NYT reporter, fought for years and years to expose the coal companies denial of black lung benefits in shockingly brazen and unethical ways. His hard work, which was fought at every turn by the GOP, the coal companies and the physicians they bought and paid for, has allowed thousands of coal miners to finally get the benefits they deserved. Far too many died in poverty and misery without access to basic care though...its a terrible way to go.
