The president’s words matter more than those of other pols.


The problem is, this could have been a very good week for the global anti-Putin alliance, for the US, and for Biden politically, but instead all the focus is on yesterday’s and other gaffs this week, and the immediate and clumsy efforts to walk them back.

None of it is surprising - Biden has been prone to this his entire career. We’ve been pretty miffed about Russian propaganda’s use of Trump’s, Carlson’s, and Pompeo’s words - with good reason. It will inevitably make great use of Biden’s words yesterday to “prove” their point that NATO is in fact all about aggression against Russia and Putin personally.

It is not hard to see why Biden’s leadership is not inspiring confidence at home. With better execution, this could have been a great political week for him. Instead, the Biden admin remains on the defensive.
