The scandal was in the election-rigging that led to these actions in the first place and the fact that now about half the country views its president as illegitimately elected and distrusts its election system. Another (related) scandal was in the multi-year fraudulent Russia Collusion investigation and subsequent fraudulent impeachment, both of which were attempts to remove a duly elected president from office under false pretenses -- i.e., subvert democracy.

If you were truly worried about attempted coups, then you'd be focused on righting those wrongs, but you're not, so you don't.
