Hi, I'm an idiot that still lives in CA, And I give up
Lifelong CA resident (I know fuck me, right?) born here 46 years ago, no criminal record, and a gainfully employed taxpayer. I just completed a 2-hour, 30-mile double round trip to the LGS to get a few boxes of ammo. it's been a while, so I didn't really know what to expect, but after this ordeal I returned home with an empty tank, stress headache, and 0 rounds. I seriously give up.

First trip I was denied because I had a valid CA ID BUT DID NOT BRING A BIRTH CERTIFICATE OR PASSPORT WITH ME!!!!! OK fine whatever... head back home and grab passport and head back no big deal.

2nd trip, boxes on the counter ready to check out. background check comes back guy looks up and says "DENIED". Guess why? Because I haven't purchased a firearm in 5 years!!! that's right because I haven't purchased a new gun within 5 years, I'm now physically unable to purchase ammunition in a face-to-face transaction! How is this not considered a violation of my Constitutional rights?!?!?

This is obviously to get your current address to tie the ammo purchase to, and it makes me sick. they say the only other option is to update one of my other guns to my new address, for a fee of course. the root goal here is to track every box to your home address so they know what you have on hand.

Many of you laugh at people like me and say "fuck you asshole just move! CA sucks and you suck for living there!!" I've heard it all. Problem is no matter where I go I will be a scarlet letter wearing pariah with a giant target on my back, and will most likely be shunned anytime I mention where I'm from. the same people that mock me for living here are the same ones that say "DON'T CALIFORNIA MY [RED_STATE_HERE]!!"

So which is it? Do I stay here and eat the bugs and get told what to do and not to do like a good NPC, or do I move to another free state and get harassed, property vandalized, and potentially assaulted because I'm "from there".

I'm sorry for the rant I just hate that I'm now a political refugee in my own state. I didn't vote for any of this.

Edit: I realize there are no roving bands of pitchfork wielding mobs searching for CA plates in other states, I really just don't want to be yet another transplant that is driving up your housing prices and overcrowding smaller cities with no knowledge of the local community. this post was mainly just to get this off my chest after a frustrating time. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
