things besides baseball if you want to look at it from the sickness viewpoint. And it doesn't change the fact that he knew what the consequences were of his actions at the time, but he chose to still do so anyway, thinking he should be above the rules. Now if there were other players that knowingly bet on baseball at that time, and were treated differently, then there would be a point.

I would also add that judging folks by the standards of today applied to those that lived under a different standard is a slippery slope. That's what leads us to tearing down statues, among other things. And we wouldn't do it in reverse. If we suddenly outlawed wearing blackface, I wouldn't want to see Gov Northam prosecuted for what he did in 1981.

But I will again admit I'm partly slanted by my addiction to never liking Pete, even though he was indeed an incredible ball player.
