Your sentiment is admirable, but it's not going to happen in practice due to human nature, IMO. This is one of the primary reasons why I favor limited government. People fuck up all the time. They do stupid stuff, believe stupid things, etc., and that is never going to change. But if they (or a relatively small number of people) are the only ones who bear the consequences of their stupidity, then so be it. That's life.
The problem arises when people can inflict their stupidity on the rest of us via government power. So, if your assumption is that people are always going to make mistakes, then the solution is to limit their ability to do harm to others. And that means a severely limited government. Capitalism works so well for the same reason -- rather than trying to change human nature, it instead channels everyone's desire to do what's in their own self-interest into a economic system of mutual benefit.
