The trick is for people to not tolerate it in their midst.

That’s the great fallacy of Trumpie defenses of their cult leader’s epic failure in response to Spencer’s handiwork in Charlottesville a few summers back. “Good people on both sides” is a welcoming gesture to hate and evil - a simple phrase that constitutes one of the greatest failures by a president in my lifetime. The failure of the current occupant of the WH to unequivocally reject that hate and evil.

Tolerating it, making excuses for it, chirping about good people happily mixing with it - that’s how it gains a foothold, and it is one of the most dangerous aspects of Trumpism.
