I'd offer a few opinions on this -- one has been new rejection of

Multi-lateral trade deals that has been the hallmark of most (meaningful) deals in recent years. It is a philosophical thing that I don't think Trump particularly cares about or understands in the least, other than he may understand that bilateral deals on the surface seem easier to try and bully and negotiate (usually with far less meaningful results).

More to your point-- agree he likes the bully approach which also has a chance of working better in bilateral negotiations, but have to disagree on the results -- although it depends somewhat on what one is looking for with results. For example, I think the biggest takeaway from NAFTA 2.0 was an attempt to actually make some things harder, such as higher percentages required on country of origin rules for cars and an attempt to require higher labor rates from Mexico. I'm not saying those aren't some changes, but they are actually the kinds of things that Dems usually push for and which often result in less trade and more difficulty for US competitiveness in other markets. In the new updated deal, all of these things can still basically be avoided by paying fines (another version of a tariff) so in the end, I tend to side with the analysis that his new deals are a combination of not doing much overall and more about beating his chest and on the changes that actually did happen - essentially pushing the needle toward less trade or more expensive trade under the philosophy that this will all benefit workers and the US.

Finally, he had done all he can to demonize the WTO similar to other anti-international rhetoric. I think this only hurts us as well, but again - not so sure how much Dems are interested in picking up this cause.
