So the 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry was a Union unit? Interesting.

The South was not nearly unified as pro-slavery much like the North wasn't anti-slavery either.

We are well aware of western VA becoming WVA as well as Kentucky's dual loyalty as a border state, but this NC development is news to this old soldier.
