My mom's retirement community has finally gotten some testing.
Falcon's Landing in Sterling, VA. This is a retired military officers retirement community with Independent, Assisted Living and Nursing. My mom is now in nursing after a stroke 3 years ago.
They went on lock down around March 6. A week later one assisted living resident tested positive, then another a few days later. Both died. Two more in nursing (same building) died in late March, early April. About 10-15 staff tested positive. Around the first week in April, VDC said no more testing, just assume everyone has been exposed. I couldn't believe it. The community was left to their own devices. This is an upscale community of war heroes. You have to be 06 and above to get in. There is a former CNO that is a resident along with other notables. The CEO (non resident) is a retired General. They are all go-getters and have strong family support so they were not going to accept the decision of the VDC but what about the retirement communities without that support?
I have had some conversations with the general about the testing. They have been working hard for weeks trying to find someone to help them. Called everywhere, politicians, out of state etc. Finally, late last week someone came through. Guess who is was?
UVA.
Everyone in 2 assisted living buildings and nursing was tested on Friday. The national guard was standing by to collect the tests and drive them down to Charlottesville. I haven't heard the results of my mom's test yet but they are starting to come back. Thank you, UVA.
If this link is correct, the Commonwealth is #49 out 50 with regards to testing. Shame on our government. What is wrong with us?
Does anyone here have a loved one that lives at Canterbury? I think about those people every day. God bless them and their families.
