That is probably the best course for them. I think they are now so
tainted by this that they have to create the appearance, along with the actual fact, of a complete change in culture. It goes beyond just safety first. They got into this mess by taking a 1960s hydraulics-based platform and tweaking it over decades to allow modern tech to be bolted onto it. There was a point in the past where they needed to deemphasize the next several quarters of earnings, and tear off the bandaid with a truly updated platform, even though that would be costly - for them and their customers.
This could be way costlier. Probably already has been, and I don't think we're anywhere close to a bottom. Maybe Northrup Grumman could find an opening here...
