Always been a function of trust as gauged by demonstrable facts.


I don't recall the great majority of the populace as a whole having any complaint with the news and the way it was presented. Of course, a few at either extreme of the political spectrum might have a problem but other than that, no.
In terms of trust, I think coverage of the VN War is a good example. In the beginning the news coverage was pretty pro-war, depending largely on what the Defense Department was feeding them. As time went on, casualties mounted and the government narrative failed to fit what soldiers were saying and what reporters on the ground were seeing. In other words, the unvarnished truth was now getting out and it earned a lot of respect with the viewing public.
