I agree with a lot of that, including polls not meaning much yet.

Particularly anything pitting Trump against a dem - we need to have a better idea of who that will be. But you've seen polls indicating that his star is rising with independents? I recently saw one suggesting that support for impeachment among dems and independents has ticked up.

The republican party is now the Trumpist party, and it would be interesting to see if that would remain true if the economy tanked (not that I want that just so I can see). I haven't seen anything to suggest he has done anything but decline with indies. The real issue though will be how they react when they have a real choice - a specific person to compare to Trump.

They will need something more than "Trump sux", I agree.
