I've always been a pro-environmental reg guy. I think the libertarian notion that you can sue somebody for polluting your property/air/water is logically sound - and even ideal in theory - but impractical in 2018 America because of the way the legal system works. I'm coming around to the idea of a carbon tax, though, too.

I've always been against the war on drugs ... I think it's a massive waste of money that benefits basically nobody but private corrections companies. I ate a THC gummy myself last night.

I've always been pretty open to immigration. The rounding up of strawberry pickers and dishwashers (jobs Americans don't want to do in a full employment economy btw) and cheering like we're rooting out MS-13 is clearly absurd. Immigration is demonstrably good for the economy, and if you've spent even 5 minutes with your average illegal immigrant from El Salvador, Honduras, etc you know they want to be here for their family's safety and to work. Denying that is, to me, the antithesis of "Americanism," but beyond that the racial bent to some of it is downright evil.

Still, this is America and we have American ideals and values here ... which you must want to ascribe to if you want to live here. The statistics on female genital mutilation, for instance, from immigrants from Somalia which often live in closed off communities is horrifying (IIRC it's well above 50% IN THIS COUNTRY). America is an enlightenment country, and people simply cannot bring any value set here and force everyone else to accept it under the guise of "diversity."

I also still oppose/despise basically anything "identity politics" (and that includes the new right wing identity politics of the persecuted straight white male). I still think the notion that we can legislate the end to poverty is ridiculous, etc... I could go forever
