Never heard of this project until today, but per Wiki, it is harsher

penalties for gun crimes, supported by the NRA. It seems to have reduced deaths by 33% in the first year which is positive. Not sure what that means in number of lives.

However, I would also ask what it costs in terms of prison costs. That is another issue which fiscal conservatives would care about (if any are left who are not owned by the prison lobby - yes, there is a prison lobby that supports a very profitable industry). Maybe that works, but I can also see how Dems might be upset if it targeted minorities more (need to see not just incidents with guns, but conviction rates).

It is a complex issue. Based on that one statistic, it looks good, but there is more to it. I welcome the debate, but I would also argue that reasonable gun control would offer even better results - but I don't think the NRA wants real debate.

But maybe it is just easier to bash Chicago and be done with it.
