As Libertarian as I am, you still have to be realistic IMO. These are

viewed as "safe" when it comes in a pill form prescribed by a physician, but they can be highly addictive. I suspect there are large numbers of folks getting addicted, not because they want to get or enjoy the high, but because they followed doctors orders and assumed the Doc would "do no harm".

I'm all for personal responsibility, but realistically there is still a place for Govco to protect us from our own stupidity. And once that addiction sets in, there is also a tangential danger to others when addicts turn to heroin as a cheaper alternative, crime to fund the addiction, etc.
